Much gig economy research focuses on male-dominated, public facing platforms in urban services. We know very little about the everyday work-lives of women engaged in home-based, white collar gig work behind closed doors.
Female research participants generated over 100 powerful images of their home-work spaces (where much of the work of the gig economy is carried out).
I worked with a super talented artist, Jennie Temple (Edinburgh), to produce a series of line-drawIngs which illustrate major themes identified through the research interviews (including breast feeding during gig work, late night working in bed, parent-child relationships, emotional stress of being managed by an algorithm)
